Staying the Course: Even When Life (and Pizza) Tries to Pull You Back
This week was one of those weeks where life really tested me.
From the moment Sunday hit with donuts, muffins, and pastries at the church event, I felt like temptation was lurking everywhere. And let’s be real—when you’re on a journey to lose over 100 pounds again, every decision can feel like a mountain. But I promised myself I’d stay consistent, not perfect.
One thing I’ve learned is that transformation happens in the trenches. Not when everything is smooth. Not when all the meals are meal-prepped and no one is tempting you with fried chicken on your drive home from work.
Spoiler alert: My mom did just that—asked me to pick up pizza and fried chicken. And yes, I did it. But I also chose me. I chose to make a hearty salad the main part of my meal, added a little protein, and had a sliver of what she requested. That’s progress. That’s balance. That’s growth.
And I cried happy tears at my 6.8-pound weight loss this week. Not just because of the number—but because I didn’t give up.
This journey is more than a number on the scale. It’s learning to navigate real-life moments and still show up for yourself. It’s being honest about how hard it is to live with people who may not be on the same health path. It’s being okay with shifting plans and creating new boundaries.
One of the scriptures I leaned into this week was Mark 9:23-24—
"‘If you can’?” said Jesus. “Everything is possible for one who believes.” Immediately the boy’s father exclaimed, “I do believe; help me overcome my unbelief!”
That hit me deep. Because I do believe. I believe that I can be consistent. I believe that I can reach my goals. I believe that I can live a healthier, fuller life—one that glorifies God and honors the body He gave me. But sometimes, I need help overcoming the doubt that creeps in after years of yo-yoing, failing, and starting over.
This week reminded me that choosing health is a daily surrender. And when you mess up or want to give in, God gives grace—so you can get back up.
So here’s my message to you this week:
You don’t have to be perfect. You just have to be committed.
Setbacks will happen. Temptations will come. People you love may not always understand your goals. But you get to choose how you respond.
Keep showing up.
Keep believing.
And keep becoming her.
